I have recently received a Linkedin offer for a months free "job seeker" subscription. What I really want to know before taking up this offer is

1. Has anyone had any real success finding a job via Linkedin and in which country?
2. Has anyone downgraded a subscription, did you have issues with stopping payments?

It is a hefty subscription charge which I would expect to see actual performance figures from Linkedin to support its value, rather than marketing hype.
How many jobs seekers were contacted by potential employers/recruiters?
How many different employers/recruiters contacted a job seeker on average?
How many resulted in job offers?

Yeah, this is a dealbreaker for me as well. However, you might revisit LinkedIn's privacy settings. You can now control who sees your actions on LinkedIn and whether LinkedIn broadcasts your actions in your activity feed.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's fine that you used Twitter as a "work around" but I don't believe that should lead to praise. The fact you needed the work around in the first place does not bode well for the airline. Kind of like saying, even though the establishment did not have an accessible front door, you found it pleasing that you were able to find the back door.

I considered upgrading, but then I saw that it will notify ALL of my connections that I am seeking a job. I want to be more discrete, or targeted with my job search. . That was a deal killer for me. If I could selectively notify recruiters, but not notify people in a particular company (or my current company), that would be ideal. Even Facebook lets me control which of my friends gets to see the family photos, if LinkedIn did something similar, the job seeker badge would be more valuable.

I notice that among my connections no one has a job seeker badge, even those who I know have been looking for a while.

I have a love/hate relationship with Vancouver. It's a great city and there's so much to do. But I can't help feel out of place and low-class when I'm there. BC is just awesome ... really everywhere you go. I miss it a ton. But ... hey ... Saskatoon has it's perks too! ;-)

I'm not sure, I haven't actually upgraded to the "Job Seeker" account. But, that is a great question. After all, I had many people tell me that they would love to have the additional features, but they dont necessarily want to shout to the world that they are "job seeking".

One question - when we sign up for a Premium Job Seeker Account, at the bottom of the application page there is a checkbox for whether we would notify our Connections that we have upgraded. Do you know how this notice reads? Does it simply state that we have upgraded to a Premium Account, or does it state a "Job Seeker" Premium account? (I've asked LI but have not recieved a reply as of yet).

Thanks for your comment. I agree.....its unfortunate that we always hear about the "bad" and "negative" impact of social media. But, its always refreshing when you come across an experience that shows the positive side of social media engagement.

These are great examples, Trevor! Thanks for sharing. I think it's great when bloggers highlight businesses that actually get it right. For some reason, blogs/media are so quick to point out businesses that flop with their social media efforts. I think it's great that you showed the contrast between how great it can be when it's done right versus how badly it can flop if managed poorly. Good stuff!

I spent 6 hours trying to book a flight with a credit.The first agent told me i couldn't do it over the phone.Gave me wrong information about the flights available and then hung up.I cannot believe how poor the service was.

Hey Maggie,

I can't guarantee that Westjet will help you out with your concern. But, I have had success contacting Westjet via Twitter. And, since I wrote the article....I have heard from a number of other people that have had success as well.

Since you now have a Twitter account, all you have to do is send a Twitter message to @westjet and communicate your concern in 140 characters or less (sometimes hard...I know). They are very responsive as it is clear they have hired employees to monitor messages sent to their account and they are usually pretty timely with their responses.

I'm a neophyte with the Twitter stuff. I'm having a terrible time with a request for a wheelchair on a WestJet flight...They've told me I have to stand in line to get a wheelchair. I can't stand for long periods and it's over Xmas. I've waited on the phone for hours. Please tell me how I could contact them. I'm signed up for Twitter but have never used it. Can anyone help me?
